Spin Master wins Toy of the Year
Hatchimals named top toy as company scoops Licence of The Year for PAW Patrol and Pre-School Toy of the Year for PAW Patrol PAW Patroller
All at the Toy Industry Awards 2016 had a cracking time last night, as Spin Master’s Hatchimals was crowned the overall Toy of the Year. Scooping the big prizes for retail excellence, Smyths Toy Stores was named Overall Toy Retailer of the Year for a second year running, while Argos took General Mutliple Toys Retailer of the Year.

The awards were presented during a glittering gala in Olympia’s Apex Room, following a bustling first day of business on the Toy Fair show floor. A total of 25 awards were handed out to celebrate excellence in all areas of toy retail.

BTHA Chairman Jon Diver and Alan Simpson, Chairman of the Toy Retailer’s Association, presented the evening’s prestigious awards.
Spin Master was the evening’s big winner with Toy of the Year, picking up a further two awards for License of the Year with PAW Patrol and Pre-School Toy of the Year for PAW Patrols Paw Patroller.
Spin Master’s Commercial Director UK, Phil Hooper credited “innovation” and “fantastic partnerships” for helping the company win its awards.
Hasbro’s Speak Out took the Social Media Sensation of The Year gong, with David Henderson, Country General Manager UK and Ireland, said it was “fantastic”. The company also scooped Game of the Year with Pie Face.
Character Options also walked away with two awards, winning the Pocket Money category with Mash’ems and Fash’ems and Interactive Toy of the Year with Snuggles My Dream Puppy.
Supplier of the Year went to Ty, with a very proud Chairman, Mark Swallow telling the Daily News the award was a “win-win” for the company and its retail partners.
BTHA chairman Jon Diver presented the evening’s retail gongs. Smyths Toy Stores won Specialist Multiple Toy Retailer of the Year (over 30 stores) and was later presented the coveted Overall Retailer of the Year Award. Laura Butler, Senior Buyer said: “It was all down to the success of the team,” as the whole team headed by Padraig Smyth collected the award.
Meanwhile, Argos took General Multiple Toy Retailer of the Year and Linzi Walker, Trading Manager Toys and Nursery says: “We really invested in toys this year”.
