Monthly design competitions and Inspired by Real Kids campaign will see kids at core of product development

Lottie Dolls is making an official commitment to keep children at the core of its inspiration for all Lottie products through a monthly design competitions.

The company invites independent retailers to engage in the new Inspired by Real Kids monthly competitions in-store, which will roll out September 2017 - to empower children to create what they want to see, be, and play with.

Lottie aims to empower kids to be themselves, one doll at a time. The Inspired by Real Kids’ campaign celebrates the remarkable real girls that have inspired Lottie Dolls and aims to encourage children all over the world to get involved with the company. Lottie celebrates childhood and inclusivity and will encourage young designers to use their imaginations to create the toy of the dreams. Eight diverse Lottie products have already been inspired by kids with a further three currently in development – this week Lottie and the Inspired by Real Kids message received positive mentions from Pharrell Williams’ I Am Other campaign, Amy Poehler’s Smart Girls, A Mighty Girl and the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in the Media.

Each month, the company will launch a themed design competition both online and in store, independent retailers have been an integral support to the company, and the participating stores will receive a pack with design templates, posters and a product prize to give to a winning customer entry of their choice. The overall international monthly competition winners will have their design made by the company; within 9 months of selecting a winner, Lottie Dolls will have the product on the market. In lieu of any compensation to overall design winners, 10% of the net profits from products developed through the Lottie “Inspired by Real Kids” competitions will be donated to charity.

The September competition will search for Lottie’s Hidden Figure, where children design an inspiring person who they feel should be celebrated and an outfit will be created inspired by the winning design as well as outfits inspired by Malala, Amelia Earhart, and Frida Kahlo. Winner will be announced on International Day of the Girl (11 October)

Since launching our first product that was inspired by a real child 4 years ago we’ve been blown away by how perceptive, imaginative and assertive children are today - they are incredible," said Ian Harkin, MD of Lottie Dolls. "The girls who have inspired Lottie dolls empower and support one another and their peers, and it’s been inspiring following their adventures and achievements. This sparked our commitment to having all products inspired by real kids. 2017 is working out to be a very exciting year for us, for the first time we now have a full range with playsets, dolls, buildings, outfits and books to cover all buying scenarios from birthdays to gifts and Christmas day!”
