Hasbro makes rumoured bid for Mattel
Reports in The Wall Street Journal indicate early talks for rival takeover
Hasbro has made a bid to acquire its rival Mattel, according to reports from The Wall Street Journal.
The sources cited by The WSJ claim a conversation about Hasbro buying the company behind Barbie and Hot Wheels happened recently, although no terms were disclosed and an final agreement is not yet in sight.
If a suitable agreement was to be reached, however, it would bring together two of the world's biggest and most influential toy companies, along with some of the the biggest, most iconic, and longest-running toy brands.
The bid follows damp results for both Mattel and Hasbro in their most recent financials. The struggles of retailer Toys R Us have been cited by both as a major contributor to flat, or worse, results.
