Classic game AtmosFear returns
Cult hit best seller from the 90s to return in 2019 with a modern twist
Hit 90s board game AtmosFear, which incorporated a VHS host, is set to make a return to shelves with a modern day twist.
Hijinx Toys announced at San Diego Comic Con it would be bringing back a revamped version of the best-selling cult hit in 2019.
“The original from 1991 was a true game changer in terms of bringing board games to a new market via VHS and DVD," said Norma Rosenhain CEO Hijinx Toys. "We are relaunching Atmosphere for the digital age, and are so excited for its launch in 2019”
Atmosfear is a game played by three to six players who move around a board using playing pieces, hounded by a ghoulish video host, The Gatekeeper, who randomly appears throughout the game to shout instructions and insults at players. His taunts, along with a building soundtrack of music and storm effects create chaos as players try to collect six playing pieces and make their way to the centre of the board where they must face their greatest fear.
"The game originally sold over three million units at retail and is one of those games that when you mention it has been one that people have wanted to re-release’," said Phil Tanner from AtmosFear IP-owner A Couple of Cowboys. ‘’We are so happy to be teaming with Hijinx for this and the subsequent follow up games, and look forward to what they can do to get new gamers to face their fears.’’
