New Power Rangers movie in the works
A sequel to the 2017 cinema release looks likely
The Power Rangers are set to return to the big screen, with a sequel to their 2017 movie reportedly in the works with Hasbro and Paramount.
A report from LIMA citing a call between CEO Brian Goldner and analysts says Hasbro will produce "a follow-up to the 2017 release" – although whether that is a direct sequel, a spin-off or a reboot is not yet clear.
Hasbro acquired the Power Rangers brand from Saban earlier this year as part of a package of IP, which also included Luna Petunia and My Pet Monster, worth a little over $520 million.
Brian told analysts that 2019 will be a "transition year" for the Power Rangers brand. Existing licensed product is expected to be sold through at retail until the middle of next year before brand new product begins rolling out on store shelves in 2020. He added that the company has high hopes for the brand and has identified "significant opportunity for growth".
