Hamleys forge ahead in India
Indian expansion means Hamleys speed up plans
Things may be tough in the US and Europe but in the BRICs countries, this is not the case.
As we reported earlier this week, India’s toy industry is growing at an alarming rate, thought to be in part down to wealthier parents’ guilt, which leads to lavishing gifts on the little ones.
Now we learn that Hamleys, which has two stories in the sub-continent, plan to open 20 by 2016 – a much wider and speedier expansion plan than was initially announced.
Sudhir Pai, Hamleys partner in India, commented to The Times: “We want to expand much faster than what was in our contractual agreement because the response has been so encouraging."
