Worlds Apart completes Three Peaks Challenge
A team of 14 men and women from within Worlds Apart have joined forces to undertake the Three Peaks Challenge.
The challenge was in support of the CHICKS charity (Country Holidays for Inner City Kids).
In a bid to raise £5,000 for the charity, the intrepid group climbed the three highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales (a total of 3,407 metres climbing, over 23 miles of walking and 400 miles of driving) over a day and a half.
Neil Gray, head of design at Worlds Apart took part in the challenge, and commented: "We are so thrilled to have made it to the summit of each peak and reach our goal to raise money for this great cause. Despite sore feet, blisters and fatigue, we had such a fun time doing it and moral was always high. To know we were helping others really spurred us on and the views from the top were spectacular. So far we have managed to raise £3,855 and with more support we hope to get to our final goal of £5,000 very soon."
Worlds Apart managing director, Neil Shinner, added: "We are extremely proud of the team for completing the challenge and congratulate them on the fantastic spirit in which they did it. I believe is testimony to the great level of camaraderie we enjoy here at Worlds Apart. Any more support from within the industry would be much appreciated as move ever closer to our target of £5,000 for this amazing charity."
CHICKS is a registered charity that provides free respite breaks to disadvantaged children at two UK based retreats; Cornwall and Devon. They receive no government funding and rely solely on the help and support of local communities.
The children referred to as CHICKS come from very difficult backgrounds; many have suffered some form of abuse whilst others have the responsibility of caring for a sick or disabled relative and some live in care. All the children referred have little to look forward to and little hope for the future.
During their stay at the CHICKS retreats the children enjoy new and exciting activities such as horse riding, swimming, abseiling, rock climbing as well as trips to the beach and zoo. In quieter moments they get to bounce on the sunken trampolines, face paint, make arts and crafts, read or even play chess. On their final day they are provided with hand-made (by volunteers) Wish Bags, which include items to remind them or their holiday and a collage of photos to remind them of the friends they have made and the fun they have had.
