Counterfeit Rubik's Cubes seized
Rubik’s licensor, Seven Towns, has reported a successful outcome following the confiscation of counterfeit Rubik’s Cubes in India.
Criminal raids carried out at a major wholesale toy market in New Delhi, seized counterfeit products and have arrested four persons in connection. Each has now been charged under the Copyright Act, Trade Marks Act and the Indian Penal Code.
Police have been directed to investigate the source of the counterfeit cubes and are currently conducting further investigation. Once the trial is concluded and if the accused are found guilty, the goods will be destroyed.
David Hedley Jones, senior vice president at Seven Towns said: "We believe we have been able to send out a strong deterrent message in the market and toy dealers will think twice before they try to stock counterfeit Rubik's Cube. We intend to send out cease and desist letters to other toy distributors in the same neighbourhood who we suspect also sell counterfeit cubes. Given that the news of the raids has spread on a wide scale, we are sure that these distributors will comply."
