Bureau Veritas open day a roaring success
UK Based product testing company throw open the doors
The folks at Bureau Veritas opened their doors to the great and good of the toy trade to talk them through the importance of safety testing in the UK
Attendees were talked through the various aspects of testing in the laboratories and attendees found the day full of great information, one says of the day:"Malcolm Horner's talk was really informative/technically useful to understand what is a toy and what is not a toy and to understand companies responsibilities under the Toy Safety Directive".
A Bureau Veritas spokesperson adds:"Everyone loved the tour of the laboratory; most of the attendees had never seen a testing laboratory before so they were impressed with the testing equipment. They also liked seeing the other parts of our lab (textiles, furniture, lighters, bicycles, electrical products) as some companies had other product lines than toys. `
All the attendees found the private "Product Technical File Surgeries" excellent. We had a total of 5 consultants who gave surgeries: Malcolm Horner, Claire Franco, Tom Baird, Simon Stokes and Ania Romanczak.
During these surgeries, companies received advise on the content of their product technical files, which is a requirement of the Toy Safety Directive."
Another highlight of the days was the Open Forum from Keith Lister, where companies had the opportunity to ask specific questions on toy safety in a relaxed environment,
Clyde Simpson, Technical Specialist at Talking Tables found the day invaluable:"It was a really useful and informative day. The technical file surgery was excellent and Bureau Veritas toy consultants gave us useful
advice. A very enjoyable day that I would recommend to others".
Malcolm Horner, Toy Technical Consultant at Bureau Veritas Consumer Products Services says: "We were delighted to get such a fantastic turnout. It showed that toy companies are still seeking guidance on the Toy Safety Directive since its implementation in July. In particular, the afternoon surgeries proved really useful in helping manufacturers and importers understand the requirements for the product technical files and the level of detail that should be included. The open day was also a good opportunity for companies to network with their peers and discuss common preoccupations."
