Squaring off for 10 years

Speedcubers come together this weekend for 10th annual Rubik’s UK Championship, with special Star Wars celebration

This weekend sees the 10th anniversary of the Rubik’s UK Championship come to Stevenage, where 200 competitors from 19 countries will battle it out cube to cube!

The event takes place on 7-8 November 2015 at The Forum, Stevenage, and is set to have the biggest turn out ever in its 10 year history. To celebrate the 10th anniversary in true cubing style, speedcubers from around the world will unite to build a mosaic of the Star Wars character Han Solo out of 1000 Rubik’s Cubes!

Current UK and European Champion, Alexander Lau, will be defending his cubing title. At the 2014 Rubik’s UK Championships, Alexander completed the iconic 3x3 cube in an average of 9.02 seconds. His ultimate personal best of solving the original and best puzzle in history is a mind blowing 5.96 seconds.

Lynette Norris, Marketing Manager at John Adams Leisure Ltd, which is sponsoring the event said: “We are delighted to once again be sponsoring the 10th annual Rubik’s UK Championships. It’s always great to see the speedcubers from around the world come together in one place as many have become good friends over the years, so the event is a great opportunity for them to get together and enjoy something they all love - speedcubing! We are looking forward to seeing who comes out on top this year!”

The Rubik’s UK Open event consists of many events including 2x2 Rubik’s Cube, 4x4 Rubik’s Cube, 5x5 Rubik’s Cube, 3x3 Rubik’s Cube one handed, and 3x3 Rubik’s Cube blindfolded. Last year’s event also saw speedcubers solving the cube with their feet, so cubers will be returning this year feet first, to toe in on Robert Yau’s current record of 1:00.69 seconds!
