Hasbro launching ‘The Godfather’ edition of Monopoly
Hasbro is celebrating the 40th anniversary of The Godfather movie with a special edition of the game. It's not personal, it's business as you systematically eliminate your opponents to reign supreme in this classic Monopoly game with a Godfather twist.
The normal tokens are replaced with a horse head, cannoli, Genco Olive Oil tin, the Don's limo, a dead fish and a tommy gun while Chance and Community Chest cards have been replaced with Friends and Enemies cards. The properties have been replace with locations from the film including Moe Green's Casino, Joe's Diner, Hyman Roth's Home, Corleone Long Island Home and Corleone Lake Tahoe Estate.
The traditional houses and hotels have been turned into Hideouts and Compounds, and the game features new “Don” cards allowing each player to align with a particular family and employ a potentially lethal strike. The Corleone card, for instance, entitles the bearer to a kidnapping of an opponent while the Tattaglia card affords its owner a single money laundering opportunity. Since there is no consigliere to offer advice, players must take care of their family at all costs.
